Mumbai’s new found obsession in entertainment and food industry is an eclectic mix of three strong magnetic powers that would draw youth to Mathuradas compound – inventive food , extensive list of cocktails and thumping music in its right dosage. It is all that one wants in a city that keeps you on your toes all day long.

Old school music enhanced by popular cover band JukeBox, with the individuality of the golden era and the hustle of simple rhythmic commercials forms the crux of newly launched blueFROG Bar Nights in Mumbai. It started out young, with a small but loyal following, eventually, however, it was sucked into the mainstream and is today, quite a ‘flavour of the week’ with these special Tuesdays and that too live performance at blueFROGwith a roaring selection at M.R.P. In a grunge meets chic setting, blueFROG has created quite a niche in the industry today. blueFROG is a revolutionary, integrated music project in Mumbai. It consists of the country’s premiere live music performance club, music recording studios with a production, an independent record label & artist management service. 5 people with varied career backgrounds sharing musical sentiments have created this canvas of entertainment with the perfect settings of a fine dining restaurant to add to.

It is very dynamic from the usual bar nights where, one wouldn’t throw on their casual wear and gyrate to music cutting edges wall-to-wall. Live music runs six nights a week, with international artists featured regularly with genres ranging from jazz, blues, funk, soul and Afro/Latin to Electronic, Club, Rock and Folk. They also encourage musical theater performances, stand-up comedy, poetry and film nights.

Anoushka Shankar live at blueFROGblueFROG is a master design where diners who wish to enjoy the performances from their designated pockets are given all the respect. A group build-up in front of the stage is all that the dance floor invites. Also, post regular playing hours, the band requests diners’ for their  permission, to continue playing for the one’s on the floor. Well, understanding that loud music is a given at such places, I wonder who would deny permissions. Especially when one is enjoying the view being seated and ordering from the inventive and extensive European food and bar menu.

We order succulent rings of calamari, sautéed in olive oil with a sizzling note of curry leaves and garlic. This disappears in a fraction from the bowl and wins a reorder. Next, we head towards classic fish fingers. These marinated in English mustard are perfectly breaded and served with a dollop of tartare sauce. Crisp yet juicy as expected. We had our eyes set on crumb fried pork belly crisps that they serve with sweet chilly dip. But the server announces, “Sold Out”, blaming it on its popularity. However, he suggested a mezze platter which included a selection of appetizers on a large platter. We were more than stuffed with the fist look at it. It comprised of a large bowl of Hawaiian chicken salad, chicken crisp, pork dim sum, tuna sliders, tenderloin fritters, devilled eggs and baked chicken puff, each served with accompanying sauces and dips.

linguini jaleo peneoWe interspersed each appetizer with a cocktail. Their take on a classic mojito with green apples was refreshing. But what stood out was clearly ‘The blueFROG’ with the predictable blue curacao and hidden notes of lemon grass.

Linguine chicken “jaleo paneo” is rightly so their specialty with perfectly al dente pasta being served with a punch of three types of chillies. Tenderloin steak, medium well done, with bone marrow and mushroom sauce, perfumed with chanterelles was superior, however, prefer Angus.

Spacetribe and Laser are back with JinXxaa & M.A.N at blueFROGFrom the moment you walk into the venue your feet are thumping. It just sets on in one of those long awaited weekdays. Pleasurable dining and articulate drinks, supplemented with attentive service amidst all the craziness. The pleasures of dining are taken several notches higher with the choice of music. Particularly so, because you won’t feel the bass vibrating from your feet all the way up, while eating.
